In celebration of Pride, we asked our staff to tell us about LGBTQI organizations that they care about and support. #MuseumsWithPride #SFMOMAstaff 🏳️🌈 . Our Communications Manager, Clara Hatcher Baruth, chose The GLBT Historical Society, Archives and Museum. The @glbt_history collects, preserves, and showcases queer history from its archives, dating back to the 1910s. While founded during the AIDS crisis in 1985, the @glbt_history has become a mirror for its community and the diversity of their experiences. There is currently a multiyear effort, Vision2020, to help create a new comprehensive center to better preserve LGBTQ public history. Learn more on their website.

In celebration of Pride, we asked our staff to tell us about LGBTQI organizations that they care about and support. All month long, we will be sharing those stories. #MuseumsWithPride #SFMOMAstaff . Ed Lamberger from Human Resources chose The National AIDS Memorial Grove. This 10 acre living memorial was designed to remember, honor, and celebrate those who have been impacted by or lost their lives to AIDS. . The founding group (pictured onsite in 1988) created this space in the eastern end of Golden Gate Park as a way to express their collective grief. In 1996 the grove officially became The National AIDS Memorial Grove, and its place was solidified as a sanctuary for our nation. . . 📷: Leslie-Lehman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art

In celebration of Pride, we asked our staff to tell us about LGBTQI organizations that they care about and support. All month long, we will be sharing those stories. #MuseumsWithPride #SFMOMAstaff . "My best friend grew up with two loving mothers in a narrow minded community. I'll never forget her face when kids would taunt her in public. When her family discovered @pflagnational, they connected with families like theirs and found the support they needed."-Gabriella, Tourism + Group Sales . The idea for @pflagnational began in 1972 when Jeanne Manford (pictured above) marched with her son, Morty, in New York's Christopher Street Liberation Day march, the precursor to today's Pride parade. After many people ran up to Jeanne during the parade and begged her to talk to their parents, she began a 20 person support group which has evolved into nearly 400 chapters across the nation. #PFLAG 🏳️🌈
